Anna M. Speicher, Ph.D.
I am an independent scholar and freelance writer and editor in the metropolitan Chicago area. I am also a project organizer and administrator.
As a freelance writer and editor, I work with clients to determine how I can best meet their needs, from writing and editing to fact checking and proofreading. I am adept at writing and editing for a variety of audiences. My academic editing tends to focus in the areas of religion and theology.
My historical research focuses on the intersection of women’s history, religion, and social reform in America. I published The Religious World of Antislavery Women: Spirituality in the Lives of Five Abolitionist Lecturers in 2000. I am currently annotating my transcriptions of the diaries of the abolitionist sisters Sarah and Angelina Grimké, for forthcoming digital publication by the William L. Clements Library, University of Michigan.
In addition to my writing and editing, I have devoted much of my life to work within nonprofit organizations. I have used my leadership and communication skills in a variety of environments, including project administration, college teaching, and volunteer work with community service and advocacy agencies. I served for ten years as the project director and senior editor of a Bible curriculum produced for three of the historic peace churches. Since then, I have earned a master’s degree in nonprofit administration and served as a fundraising consultant to an international peacemaking organization. I continue to apply my skills in a variety of church and community contexts.
